My house made it through fine! The pecan tree and rose bush look a bit battered, but no major limbs off (there are even a few pecans left on one side). The worst wind in my neighborhood did not come from the direction I expected, so my house was mostly sheltered, while some of my neighbors got wind damage. We will need to replace the gate latch--it sacrificed itself gamely and dug into the wood quite deeply, holding the gate shut the whole time. I was quite impressed.

I'm a bit concerned about being able to find gas if they make us go back to work tomorrow, but I have enough for one trip at least and I can't see how they are going to be able to open with no water and no power at many of the campuses and in many of the students' houses. We shall see, I suppose.

Very glad about your house!

HCC is closed through Wed. at least -- the server is finally up (actually, it points to HCC's blogspot instead) and they say through Wednesday. And I suspect it will be through Thursday, and possibly through Friday in the end.

We still have no power as of this morning, so we're staying put in Ft. Worth.

Staying put sounds like a good idea (we only came back because we knew tygerr at least had power and no damage)--top off your gas in Centerville at the latest as that seems to be the last easily accessible source. I just saw that on HCC a few minutes ago too--checked after posting (of course).

What a relief! Some people I know up in Ohio have been discussing the weird windstorm they got. No rain, few clouds, but really high, damaging sustained winds.
I'm very happy to hear that you got so little damage.
Hopefully you won't have to go back to work til there's more widespread power and gas available.

Looking at the power outages by zipcode map, my campus is in an area with a 100% power outage. I'm having serious doubts about their being open by Thursday. I will try to find gas tomorrow probably anyway, just in case.

I also have a friend in Ohio who was discussing the fast moving fast remnants of Ike that hit.

Most people around here as long as they were not too close to the water or near a large tree that fell the wrong way seem to have come out with only minor property damage.

Too many people too close to the water who didn't leave though. But all the people I have checked on seem OK. And I have power and Internet back!
